Warrensville HS students, STEM Coordinator, and TCWP staff celebrate after completing the rain garden refresh.

The rain garden at Warrensville Heights just got a refresh with a day of hands-on learning and planting. The updates were made possible through The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation’s #GroMoreGood Grassroots Grant (administered by KidsGardening) and funding from Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District.

TCWP worked alongside Warrensville Heights students and K–12 STEM Coordinator Bret Wilson, turning the garden into a real-time outdoor classroom. Students helped plant native species and learned how rain gardens capture and filter stormwater before it reaches local streams.

The project added new native plants with deep roots to help soak up runoff and support pollinators like bees and butterflies. Fresh mulch and new steppingstones will improve access for future student visits, and educational signage will help explain how the site works as part of the watershed.

Rain gardens are simple green infrastructure with a big impact, slowing down rain where it falls, filtering runoff, and quietly keeping local waterways cleaner every time it storms.
