Join us in Commemorating the Last Burning on the Cuyahoga River
Tinker’s Creek Watershed Partners will be hosting a Golf Outing for the 50th Anniversary of the last Cuyahoga River Fire on June 22, 2019. The event will be hosted at the Shawnee Hills Golf Course located at the Cleveland Metroparks Bedford Reservation in Bedford, Ohio.
On June 22, 1969, the Cuyahoga River had caught flame, again, due to the built-up sewage and pollution of local businesses and shipping yards. This was in fact not the first time, but the thirteenth time. Back then, Cleveland had been seen as a symbol of environmental degradation, but today it is seen as a symbol of resilience. The fire prompted the launch of the federal Clean Water Act and other clean up efforts.
On June 22, 2019, and everyday, we celebrate the rebirth of the Cuyahoga River and recognize our responsibility to protect it.
